Double Eyelid Surgery Malaysia: Cost and Reviews 2018

How to Find the Best Double Eyelid Surgery Clinic in Malaysia?

Double eyelid surgery or Asian blepharoplasty is one of the most popular plastic surgeries among the Asian population. Almost half of Asian men and women are born without an upper crease. As people's faces differ, no one technique should be used for all patients. Before the operation, the eyelid surgeon will discuss with you the procedure best suited to your eyes. The choice of double eyelid surgery differs according to an individual patient.

Although information on eyelid surgery is all over the internet, most sites provide piece-meal information and flakey recommendations. While some of the sites do provide the needed information; the methods in which the clinics or the specialists are selected are not explained. It’s also obvious that some of these directories are not aware of the local regulations and aesthetics guidelines in Malaysia that stipulate who, what and where an eyelid surgery can be and cannot be done. While you may wish to ignore the guidelines but do bear in mind that the guidelines were designed and developed to protect consumers like you in the first place, whether you are from Malaysia or abroad.

It is also getting common for beauty salons and spas to offer eyelid surgeries to customers who frequent their premises. Please be informed that only trained and qualified medical professionals are authorized to perform a double eyelid surgery procedure.

We have gone through some of the double eyelid surgery Malaysia forums and we would expect that you would have probably done the same. It is clear that the information is all over the place and it's difficult to really decide on who is the best surgeon for you after reading all those forums. You will only need to short-list at least 2 for comparison and then choose the better one to proceed.

Know the Basics of Double Eyelid Surgery

Before you get yourself confused with the reviews and prices, you need to know that there are basically 2 types of double eyelid surgery:

  1. Non-incisional, suture “scarless” double eyelid surgery
  2. Incisional “cutting” double eyelid surgery
The main differences are:

Length of surgery and post-surgical downtimes

  1. Non-incisional - Shorter time required
  2. Incisional - Longer surgical time
Size of double eyelid surgical scar
  1. Non-incisional suture double eyelid surgery: Between three to five 1 – 2 mm incisions along the upper eyelid crease.
  2. Incisional double eyelid surgery: Surgical incision along the entire length of the double eyelid crease (usually between 35 – 40mm).
Permanence of double eyelid crease
  1. Non-incisional suture double eyelid surgery: Permanence of double eyelid crease dependant on various factors ie strength of suture over time, adequate formation of tissue adhesions, post-surgery aftercare (not rubbing your eyes excessively)
  2. Incisional double eyelid surgery: Double eyelid crease is permanent.

Double Suture and Twisted (DST) Technique

The problem with the non-incision method is that it does not last as long as the incisional method. Here is where the double suture and twist (DST) procedure comes in. DST is a widely used technique in Japan since its invention in 2001, developed by Dr Akihiro Minami.

Double eyelid surgery (Incisional)
Most people undergo double eyelid surgery for beauty purposes, but this procedure is also popular amongst older people whose vision is disrupted when the skin from their upper eyelid sags to forms a hood as a result of ageing.
During the one-hour procedure, the surgeon removes excess skin and fats and tucks it in to create a fold, forming the double eyelids.

Cost: RM3,500 – RM4,000

Eye bag removal
Eye bags refer to the swelling of the tissues around the eyes. They are commonly caused by the thinning of the skin that will reveal the existing fats and muscle around the eye. Factors such as lack of sleep, tobacco, alcohol and ageing contribute to the appearance of eye bags.
An eye bag removal surgery can reduce the puffiness and dark circles, making you look younger, refreshed and alert.
The surgery involves the removal of excess fat from the lower eyelid to reinforce the surrounding muscles and tendons around the transconjuctival and rejuvenate the skin. It can be done through the outer or inner eyelid, depending on your surgeon’s recommendation. Scarring is zero if the surgery is done through the inner eyelid.

Cost: RM3,500 – RM4,000

Epicanthoplasty
A unique feature to Asian eyelids is the epicanthic folds, the skin fold at the inner corner of your eye that gives a characteristic slit. Epicanthoplasty is a procedure that involves the removal of epicanthal folds to make the eyes appear bigger.
The procedure takes less than an hour, where the surgeon shortens the ligament at the corner of the eye to widen eye and then re-drape the excess skin around the inner corner of the eye. There may be some scarring following surgery but they are mainly hidden within the natural folds of the under-eye.

Cost: RM2,000 – RM2,500
